Latest known WhatsApp problems on iPhone XS

1

Will WhatsApp stop working on my iPhone XS?

Your iPhone XS will keep working as long as you run a supported iOS version. WhatsApp now requires iOS 15.1 or later and has dropped support for iOS 12, 13 and 14, so update through Settings > General > Software Update, which the XS fully supports (it can run iOS 15 through 18). As long as you stay on a current iOS, WhatsApp will continue receiving updates and working normally on this device. See how others solved this on Reddit

WhatsApp won't open or load on my iPhone XS, how do I fix it?

First make sure iOS is current via Settings > General > Software Update, then update WhatsApp in the App Store, since outdated builds often fail to launch on older iOS. If it still won't open, force-close it (swipe up from the bottom of the screen, pause, then flick the WhatsApp card away), restart the phone, and check that Settings > General > iPhone Storage has free space. As a last resort, offload or delete and reinstall WhatsApp from the App Store; if you have a recent Chat Backup in iCloud, your chats restore when you sign back in. 3

Can I still use WhatsApp if my iPhone XS is stuck on iOS 14?

WhatsApp now requires iOS 15.1 or newer, so it will stop receiving updates and eventually stop connecting on iOS 14. The good news is the iPhone XS officially supports iOS 15, 16, 17 and 18, so update through Settings > General > Software Update to keep using WhatsApp. If an update won't appear, free up storage and make sure the phone is charged and on Wi-Fi. 4

How do I move my WhatsApp chats from iPhone XS to a new iPhone?

Make a fresh backup on the XS via WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > Back Up Now, using the same iCloud account you'll sign into on the new iPhone. On the new phone, sign in with the same Apple ID and the same phone number, then WhatsApp will detect the iCloud backup during setup and offer Restore Chat History. Keep both phones on Wi-Fi and plugged in for a smooth transfer. See how others solved this on Reddit

How do I transfer WhatsApp from my iPhone XS to an Android phone like a Pixel?

iCloud backups don't restore on Android, so use WhatsApp's official Move to Android tool, which only runs during the new phone's initial setup. During Pixel setup, follow the prompt to copy data from your old phone; on the iPhone XS open WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Move Chats to Android and scan the QR code shown on the Pixel. Connect the two phones with a USB-C-to-Lightning cable and keep both unlocked until the transfer finishes. Because it only works at setup, do it before adding your WhatsApp account on the Pixel. 6

How do I hide my online status and last seen in WhatsApp on iPhone XS?

Open WhatsApp > Settings > Privacy > Last Seen & Online, then set Last Seen to Nobody and choose Same as Last Seen for who can see when you're online. Remember this is reciprocal, so if you hide your last seen you also won't see other people's. These controls live inside the WhatsApp app itself, not in iOS Settings. How to install WhatsApp on iPhone XS — video walkthrough

How to install WhatsApp on iPhone XS

1

Open the App Store

Unlock your iPhone XS and tap the blue App Store icon on the Home Screen. WhatsApp is not preinstalled on any iPhone, so you install it from here.

2

Search for WhatsApp Messenger

Tap the Search tab at the bottom right, type WhatsApp Messenger, and confirm the publisher shows as WhatsApp Inc. so you don't download a copycat app.

3

Download and install

Tap Get, then authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID (or your Apple Account password). The app downloads to your Home Screen in a few seconds.

4

Verify your phone number

Open WhatsApp, accept the terms, and enter your phone number. If your iPhone XS uses dual SIM, pick the line you want WhatsApp tied to, then enter the 6-digit code it sends by SMS — it usually fills in automatically.

5

Restore chats and finish setup

Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account to restore an existing chat backup, add your name and photo, and tap Allow for notifications so messages and calls arrive reliably.

Stay safe: only ever install WhatsApp from the official iOS source. The Download button above already points there — modified copies (GB/Plus/Aero WhatsApp) can get your number banned.

Sorry but stuck on a black screen after install

AppWhatsOfficialNov 13, 2025

Happy to help, a black screen usually clears after a restart. If not, reinstall the newest version and it should open fine. Hope that helps!
