Why aren't WhatsApp notifications showing up (or arriving late) on my Pixel 8a?
This is almost always Android's battery management freezing WhatsApp in the background. Open Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > App battery usage and set it to Unrestricted. Then go to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Notifications and confirm each category (Messages, Group notifications, Calls) is on. Finally, check Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb (including any Bedtime or scheduled mode) to make sure WhatsApp isn't being silenced. Why can't I record or play voice messages in WhatsApp on my Pixel 8a?
WhatsApp needs microphone access that may have been denied or revoked. Go to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Permissions > Microphone and set it to Allow. Also make sure the system-level mic toggle is on under Settings > Privacy & security > Privacy controls > Microphone access (or via the Quick Settings 'Microphone access' tile). Why does WhatsApp send blurry, low-quality photos instead of HD from my Pixel 8a?
WhatsApp defaults to compressed Standard quality to save data. Open WhatsApp > Settings > Storage and data > Media upload quality and switch it to HD, or when attaching a photo tap the 'HD' button at the top of the editor before sending. How do I restore my WhatsApp chat history on a new Pixel 8a?
WhatsApp backs up to Google Drive, so during setup sign in with the same Google account that holds the backup and verify the same phone number, then tap Restore when prompted. Choose how to download
On your Pixel 8a you can get the official app two ways: from the Google Play Store — the easiest option, since it keeps WhatsApp updated automatically — or directly from the official website. You can download an APK file, by clicking a link “Download WhatsApp directly”.

Open WhatsApp
Launch WhatsApp from your home screen or app drawer and accept the Terms of Service to start setup.

Verify your phone number
Enter your phone number. If your Pixel 8a uses dual SIM, pick the line you want WhatsApp tied to, then enter the 6-digit code it sends by SMS — it usually fills in automatically.

Restore chats and finish setup
Restore your chat history from Google Drive (use the same Google account), add your name and photo, and tap Allow for notifications so messages and calls arrive reliably.
Stay safe: only ever install WhatsApp from the official Android source. The Download button above already points there — modified copies (GB/Plus/Aero WhatsApp) can get your number banned.

Good question, it depends. WhatsApp drops support for very old systems over time. If the store still offers you the app, your phone is supported.

It is the official WhatsApp from the real app store. We do not recommend modded versions like GB or Plus, they can get your number banned.
